傷が治る過程には、様々な因子が関与するが、B細胞と呼ばれる免疫担当細胞が関わっているとは従来考えられていなかった。しかし、今回の研究で、このB細胞に発現する重要な分子であるCD19の発現を欠くマウスでは、傷の治りが悪くなり、逆にCD19を過剰に発現したマウスでは、傷の治りが良くなることから、B細胞が傷の治る過程に重要な役割を担っていることが明らかとなった。
