本研究課題では、様々な組織幹細胞システムの制御機構における共通分子基盤の解明を目的とし、Spred-1に着目して造血幹細胞と色素幹細胞システムを中心に解析を行なった。Spred-1欠損マウスの解析から、血液系ではSpred-1はサイトカインである幹細胞因子(SCF)による刺激を抑制的に制御することによって造血幹細胞とその維持・分化の場所であるニッチとの親和性を調節していることが示唆された。一方色素系でも同様にSpred-1欠損マウスを用いた解析を行なった結果、色素細胞が過剰に増殖していることを明らかにした。
