本研究は、強い光の場による分子結合再配列プロセスを、材料合成へ応用した独創的な研究である。ベンゼン溶液へのレーザー照射により、液体中に粒径が数10nm程度のダイヤモンドライクカーボン微粒子が生成した。金属塩化物水溶液へレーザーを照射したところ、金属ナノ粒子が生成した。レーザー照射後の水溶液には、金属ナノ粒子の表面プラズモン共鳴に起因する光吸収が認められた。これらの結果は、強い光の場での光分子変換プロセスにより、金属錯体水溶液中からナノ粒子を合成できること強く示す結果である。
