初年度はヨルダンでの発掘調査と初期遊牧民人骨の研究を中心に行った。Tal'at Abydahケルン墓群出土人骨は、いずれも二次葬で上肢の筋肉が発達している。一方、Wadi abu Tulayhaケルン墓出土人骨は、一次葬で上肢の筋肉が発達していることが確認できた。ジャフル盆地では遊牧を主としながらも、そのスタイルは一様ではなく、埋葬方法についても多様化している事が明らかになった。次年度はヨルダン南部、の定住民Bab edh-Dhra'遺跡出土人骨を観察し、EBI期の遊牧民人骨と比較した。ヨルダン南部のEBI期では定住民は頑丈型、遊牧民は華奢型と大別できる。遊牧民の中には、華奢型ながらも下肢の方が筋発達した体格で、定住民と同様の筋発達をしていることから、遊牧民は、埋葬方法だけでなく生活様式についても多様化していることが分かり、定住民と遊牧民には類似する生活スタイルがあった可能性が確認できた。
