セイシェルショウジョウバエの食性決定にかかわる遺伝子として、匂い物質結合蛋白質をコードする二つの遺伝子Obp57d及びObp57eを同定した。これらの遺伝子をノックアウトしたキイロショウジョウバエは産卵場所選択における嗜好性が変化していた。Obp57dとObp57eはキイロショウジョウバエ種群において遺伝子重複により生じ、機能分化していることが示唆された。
