生体内でヘム補因子の酸化分解に関与するヘムオキシゲナーゼについて、非天然合成ヘム類縁体を結合させたときの作用機構について、反応速度論および結晶構造解析によって検討した。その結果、補因子の化学構造および補因子とタンパク質の相互作用が、タンパク質機能に大きな役割を果たしていることが判明した。
