本研究と関連したこれまでの研究業績より、レプチンが味覚器にも作用していることが明らかになり、口腔内器官もまたレプチンの作用部位であることがわかった。さらに研究を進め、口腔内器官(味覚器)のレプチンの感受性はレプチンの血中濃度と関連を示し日内変動していることが明らかになった。中枢神経に作用しエネルギー調節に働いているレプチンホルモンの新しい機能、役割の解明の一助と考える。
