正常遺伝子型の1型色覚6例のL遺伝子イントロンに変異はなく、5例のエキソン3に稀な多型が認められた。これが当該L 遺伝子の非(低)発現に関連している可能性が考えられた。正常遺伝子型の2型色覚のうち-71Cを持っていた3例においてもM 遺伝子イントロンに変異はなかった。しかし-71Cを持つM遺伝子プロモーターは、通常の-71Aを持つM 遺伝子プロモーターの30~40%の活性しかなく、-71Cが当該M遺伝子の非(低)発現に直接的に関与している可能性が考えられた。
