项目摘要

前年度(平成20年度)のセネガル各地の現地調査において予想を上回る大量のアラビア語写本・刊本の渉猟に成功し、18世紀以降における西アフリカ・イスラームの宗教的・知的連関網の把握という本研究の目的の達成に必要な資料が揃ったと判断したため、本年度は、課程博士論文「アラビア語著作から見る西アフリカ・イスラームの宗教的・知的連関網:アフマド・バンバにいたる水脈を中心に」の執筆に専念し、これを完成させることで本研究を締め括った。同論文では、アラビア語写本・刊本の分析に基づき、従来の西アフリカ・イスラーム研究が重視してきたスーフィー教団に関する情報を整理・蓄積しながらも、そうした教団的な枠組みを基盤とした西アフリカ・イスラームの歴史的展開という、これまで当然のこととして受け入れられてきた考え方を相対化すべく、教団間の壁を越えて構築されたイスラーム知識人達の直接的・間接的交流網を具体的に描写した。西アフリカにおける18世紀以降の教団的枠組みの重要性を否定することはできないが、それはあくまでも相対的なものであり、今回の研究は、同地域の宗教知識人達が、そうした教団間の差異に囚われることのない積極的な交流を通じて、ある種の宗教的・知的基盤を共有していたことを詳らかにし、また同時に、イスラーム研究においてはしばしば「辺境」のように扱われてきた西アフリカも、実際には、北アフリカや中東を含む長大で広大な時間的・空間的な連関網の一部をなす地域として存在してきたことを明示した。
