项目摘要

21年度は前年度に引き続き、顔見世番付・役割番付・絵尽しの補足調査ならびに収集を行った(調査機関:西尾市岩瀬文庫、慶応義塾大学、京都府立総合資料館、ボストン美術館他)。その上で評判記など他の興行関係史料の調査にも着手した。後者は未だ継続中であるが、今回の調査から抽出された囃子方(唄方、三味線方、鳴物)の芝居出勤情報は編年資料として再構成し、博士論文の基礎資料に位置付ける。当該期の上方には800名を超える囃子方の存在が確認される。従来その全体像すら明らかでなかったこれら囃子方について、断片的な情報であれ史料から具体的に跡付けられたのは大きな成果であった。その性格や特徴は宝暦期を画期として前後大きく二期に分けられると現時点では考えている。一期の特徴としては小歌方が主流であること、屋号を姓にもつ者が散見すること、能と歌舞伎の両方に関わった囃子方の存在が確認できること、そして宝暦期を境に囃子方の世代交代が見て取れることなどを指摘することができる(「上方歌舞伎囃子方の諸相-近世前中期の顔見世番付に基づいて-」)。一方、二期(宝暦以降)の囃子方には小歌方と長唄方が併存する傾向や、屋号を姓にもつ者が減り姓による芸系の芽生えが見出されることなど寛延以前とは異なる特徴が確認される。こうした諸点は江戸歌舞伎の影響とも関係していると考えられる。今後は東西交流の視点からも詳細な分析を加え、興行状況などを踏まえた上で当該期の上方の囃子方の動向をおさえてゆく必要がある。なお今年度は史料を劇場外にも求め、周辺地域での囃子方の活動に目を向ける予定であったが、前年度やり残した課題や史料収集に重点があったため結果的に当初より限定的な調査に止まった。しかし上方の囃子方の動態性の一端は一期における能や地歌など先行あるいは周辺諸芸能との直間接的交渉、一期二期を通じての京大坂の囃子方の交流など今回の調査範囲からも窺われた。
