We have conducted three different studies within our grand research project. The first study showed that demotivating factors among university students in studying English were 1) difficulty in understanding English, 2) dissatisfaction with teachers and classes, 3) lack of L2-self, 4) lack of opportunity to use English, and 5) anxiety. From the free writings of the group of participants who were once demotivatd but had regained their motivation, the second study revealed the importance of 1) encountering an empathetic, enthusiastic teacher, 2) feeling a necessity for English, and 3) exerting an effort to grow out of demotivation. Finally, in the third study, teacher interviews cited 1) a social environment in which English remained a 'foreign' language, 2) overprotection from parents, and 3) admission to university on recommendation as demotivating factors.

我们在我们的大型研究项目中进行了三项不同的研究。第一项研究表明，大学生学习英语的动机降低因素是1）英语理解困难，2）对教师和班级的不满，3）缺乏第二语言自我，4）缺乏使用英语的机会，5）焦虑。第二项研究从一组曾经失去动力但重新获得动力的参与者的自由写作中揭示了1）遇到一位富有同情心的，热情的老师，2）感觉到英语的必要性，3）努力摆脱动力不足的重要性。最后，在第三项研究中，教师访谈列举了1）英语仍然是“外国”语言的社会环境，2）来自父母的过度保护，以及3）被推荐进入大学作为消极因素。
