The analysis of the interaction between folic acid and embryonic palatal fusion for the treatment of the patients with cleft lip with or without cleft palate

This study aims at the application to cleft lip/cleft palate treatment in the future. Using a mouse model, I examined a change of the gene expression in palatogenesis and cell adhesion molecules called Ceacam1 were up-regulated exhaustively, so I focused on this gene.In both cases of the mouse which did not have this gene and that inhibited this genetic function by function-blocking antibody, I found out that palatogenesis was delayed.In addition, folic acid was said to be effective to the prevention of the cleft palate, it was identified that expression of Ceacam1 of the embryonic palate increased when I let pregnant mice ingest folic acid from early gestation.From these results, it was suggested that intake of folic acid from early gestation was increase the expression of Ceacam1 and it was involved in early palatogenesis.
