Effects of marijuana component(s), especially phytocannabinoids, on expression of cytochrome P450 1A1 (CYP1A1) in human hepatic cells were examined to clarify whether or not marijuana component(s) induces the expression of CYP1A1. Cannabidiol, one of the major phytocannabinoids in marijuana, increased the expression level of hepatic CYP1A1. The induction of CYP1A1 by cannabidiol may be mediated through common and/or uncommon pathway(s).
