项目摘要

本年度の研究成果は主に近刊予定の『メディア・リテラシー』(池田理知子編著、ナカニシヤ出版)収録の「毒ガスの行方:沖縄の毒ガス移送問題から考える「他者」との連帯」にまとめている。その内容は、これまで行なってきた金武湾闘争関係者に対する聞き取り調査の記録から、彼ら/彼女らが施政権返還前後の重要な経験の一つとして、在沖米軍に対する「毒ガス撤去要求運動」ないしは「(住民の安全性を確保しない)毒ガス移送に反対する住民運動」があると認識していることを捉え、その動きと「毒ガス」問題の拡がりを新聞・雑誌記事、機関誌によって明らかにしたというものである。1969年7月、沖縄島中部の米軍知花弾薬庫付近で発生した「毒ガス事件」当時、その衝撃は報道を通じて国内外に伝播し、さまざまな地域における生物化学兵器の製造や貯蔵、使用、そして被害の実態が明らかにされていった。しかし、沖縄における「毒ガス事件」を発端とする<毒ガス>に対する認識のあり方や抗議の世界的な拡がりは、「どの地域の誰がこの危険・汚染物質を背負っていくのか」という問いを生じさ、すでに沖縄で貯蔵されていた化学兵器の撤去を遅延させ、移送先候補地の人びとによる生物化学兵器反対運動との連帯を困難にしていた。本研究においては、毒ガスの恐怖に直面した沖縄の人びとが発した声や抗議の訴えはどのようなものであったのか、毒ガスの移送候補先として最初に挙がった米西海岸では沖縄における毒ガス撤去を求める動きをどのように受けとめ、さらにそれに対する沖縄側の反応にはどのようなものがあったのか、これらの動きが後の金武湾闘争の組織化にどうつながっていったのかという問いを立て、金武湾闘争が組織される以前の沖縄の抵抗運動が直面していた「連帯の困難」について考察している。
