项目摘要

本年度は、研究計画に則り、前年度までの調査で収集した資料から、19世紀の通商条約前後におけるインド洋西海域諸港市の制度変化を探った。そこから得られた成果の一部として、ザンジバルにおける領事裁判制度が成立する過程について国際会議"Crossroads between Empires and Peripheries : Knowledge Transfer, Product Exchange and Human Movement in the Indian Ocean World"(ヘント大学、6月)にて報告した。また、ボンベイのペルシア系商人の活動について、NIHUプログラム「現代インド地域研究」東京大学拠点2012年度第4回研究会において報告した(11月)。また、同じく2012年11月には、より一般に向けて、東京大学東洋文化研究所・東京大学「日本・アジアに関する教育研究ネットワーク(ASNET)」共催の公開セミナーにおいて、19世紀インド洋海域史研究の現状について講演を行った。資料収集については、米国における最も重要な調査先の一つであるピーボディー・エセックス博物館フィリップス図書館が本年度より改装のため一時閉鎖中であるため、欧米での調査予定を変更し、2010年度から継続しているインド共和国マハーラーシュトラ州立公文書館(ムンバイ)における調査に注力することとした(2013年2-3月)。その際、ムンバイ大学社会科学部歴史学科を訪問し、学科長T・R・ゴブレ教授、R・マロー二教授と研究テーマについての意見交換を行った。さらに、このムンバイ調査時の途中では、オマーン・スルターン国を訪れ、マスカト旧市街のフィールド調査により、19世紀マスカトの都市空間構造について知見を得ることができた。
