The system which reduces the mortality of fishes by upwelling of oxygen-depleted water(hypoxia), based on the natural energy, was proposed and its feasibility was studied. Overall observations of water quality and ecological behaviors of fishery fishes were conducted for clarifying the oxygen variability and following avoidance behavior of fishery fishes. 3-dimensional behavior of fishes occurred corresponding to the variation of dissolved oxygen and their threshold values were almost coincident with the experimental data. Results of case studies of numerical simulations suggested that the aeration system could not recover the oxygen level enough for fish survival in the worst case of hypoxia, but that it could be useful in the case with the enough oxygen. in the surface water.
