Making Iran in the broad sense (or Persianate region) rather thanIran as a present nation-state the research object, this project aimed to inquire into how‘modernity' originating from the West was encountered, represented and absorbed in Iran, with a sense like being in the locus in quo. As a result of the investigation, I could elucidate the actual roles played by the Muslim scholar-officers from Iranian family backgrounds and the realities of adoption of the Western modernity by the diplomatic representatives and students delegated from Iran.

本项目以广义的伊朗（或波斯地区）而不是作为一个现代民族国家的伊朗为研究对象，旨在探讨源自西方的“现代性”是如何在伊朗遭遇、呈现和吸收的，有一种置身于现状的感觉。作为调查的结果，我可以阐明来自伊朗家庭背景的穆斯林军官所扮演的实际角色，以及来自伊朗的外交代表和学生接受西方现代性的现实。
