This study explored how adults with intellectual disability achieve independence from their parents in Japan,Denmark and Finland.In Japan most adults with intellectual disability don`t want to be independent of their parents because of psychological pressure from their parents.Some of the parents I interviewed had their adult children leave home,others still live with them. I asked them what caused them think about their children`s independence. I also asked them how the relationship with their children is now and how the parents` role changed. The parents from the three respective countries were all asked the same questions in order for us to understand the differences or similarities between the countries.

这项研究探讨了日本、丹麦和芬兰智障成年人如何从父母那里获得独立。在日本，由于父母的心理压力，大多数智障成年人不想独立于父母。我采访的一些父母让他们的成年子女离家出走，其他人仍然和他们住在一起。我问他们，是什么让他们想到了孩子的独立。我还询问了他们现在与孩子的关系如何，父母的角色发生了怎样的变化。来自三个国家的父母都被问了同样的问题，以便我们了解国家之间的差异或相似之处。
