The serious attempt to appropriate Dante's Divine Comedy allowed the second-generation Romantics the ideological and aesthetic possibilities to generate their modern and cosmopolitan epic, transcending the limits of vision as prescribed by conventional literary criteria. Through the Romantic creation and endorsement of a modern Dante, the poets gained a fresh ascendancy in a new formation of "European" literature. The modern "European" literature which the Romantics inaugurated embraced the Dantean correlation between the particular and the universal in clearly delineated but wide trajectories within which to circulate diverse ideas embedded in cosmopolitanism.

对但丁《神曲》的认真尝试使第二代浪漫主义者有了意识形态和美学上的可能性，从而产生了他们的现代和世界性的史诗，超越了传统文学标准所规定的视野限制。通过浪漫主义的创作和现代但丁的支持，诗人们在新的“欧洲”文学形式中获得了新的优势。浪漫主义者开创的现代“欧洲”文学，在明确界定但广泛的轨迹中，接受了但丁式的特殊与普遍之间的关联，在这种轨迹中，嵌入世界主义的各种思想得以传播。
