项目摘要

本研究の目的は、初期瑜伽行派の基本的文献の一つである『大乗荘厳経論』のうち、それ以前に存在する部派仏教の思想を色濃く反映している第18章「菩提分品」の解読と分析を通して、一般的には小乗仏教思想から大乗仏教思想へと移行していった仏教思想の変遷を究明することにある。その中でも、章の初めに説かれる羞恥については、以下に挙げる研究成果として、その概念の思想史的変遷についてまとめることができた。章の中心テーマである三十七菩提分法や、次章との関連も深いと目される人法二無我についても、その修行方法の変化ではなく、菩薩にとっての修行方法として意図する目的や目指すべき境地の違いによって、一般の修行者たちとの差別化を図っていることが明らかにされている。三十七菩提分法の一部である四念処については、研究論文としてまとめられており、『大乗荘厳経論』という一論書と『大方大集経』等といった大乗経典との関連性も浮き彫りとなり今後の研究の進展にも貢献しているといえる。本研究によって、第18章の各項目の一つ一つについても内実が明らかにされたため、注釈家たちの時代の瑜伽行派思想の理解もより鮮明になった。同様にこれまで分かっていなかった『大乗荘厳経論』における第18章の位置づけが、菩薩に必要な自利・利他行を具体的に実現するための手段を説く章であることが明確に知られた。そのため、『学集論』その他の菩薩の修行道との関係性とも比較できるだけの素地も整ったといえ、今後さらなる研究の進展が見込まれる。
