ビザンティン聖堂の儀礼化は、ビザンティン美術のダイナミズムばかりか、ビザンティン人の思考様式の変容をも端的に表す現象である。しかし、これまではカッパドキア以外の中期ビザンティン聖堂の儀礼化、および後期ビザンティンにまで至る儀礼化の連続性は語られてこなかった。本研究は文献学的手法と図像が配された「場」の機能という二つの方法によりビザンティン聖堂の聖所における儀礼化の展開を明らかにするものである。１）文献学的な研究成果として、8世紀のコンスタンティノポリス総主教ゲルマノスの典礼註解『教会史、および神秘の観想』（Ed. and trans. by P. Meyendorff, Germanus of Constantinople, On the Divine Liturgy, New York, 1999）の翻訳を完了した。同註解の分析を通じて、8世紀当時の聖堂各部と儀式の象徴性を明らかにした。さらに、それを後期ビザンティン聖堂至聖所の図像プログラムと比較し、何故「受難」と「復活」に関連する図像が至聖所に導入されるに至ったかを検討した。その成果は2015年6月の教父研究会において発表する予定である。２）美術史学的研究に関しては、2014年8月と2015年2月の2度にわたり、トルコ、カッパドキアでの調査を行った。夏の調査では計121の聖堂を訪れ、資料写真の撮影を行った。ただし冬の調査では例年にない大雪に見舞われ、期待していた以上の成果は得られなかった。2度の調査において、カッパドキア研究を開いたジェルファニオン神父が発見して以来、その存在が疑問視されていたギョレメ2番聖堂に到達し、その図像プログラムを検討した。
