本研究は主に、近世日本に大きな影響を与えたキリスト教に注目すること、東アジアの動向に注目すること、対外関係を担う地域に注目することを軸に、近世日本の対外関係について解明することを主眼としている。平成27年度は、一点目と二点目を中心に研究を行った。また、国内史料と海外史料の収集という研究実施計画に基づき、日本国内においては東京と長崎、海外においてはマカオとポルトガル、イタリアに赴き、史料収集を行った。平成27年度に行った研究のテーマは、政治と経済、宗教という両側面から、日本・マカオ間関係の様相を考察するというものであった。具体的な内容は次の通りである。日本・マカオ間関係におけるトピック、すなわち、マカオの対日負債とそれに対する日本の反応、日本のキリシタン禁制とマカオの世俗・教会権力に関して、日本の史料と外国語史料をもとに検討した。日本側の研究状況を概観すると、オランダ語史料に比して、ポルトガル語史料の翻刻・翻訳が進展していないこと、マカオに関する研究が日本でほとんど普及していないことから、マカオ研究の成果を共有するに至っていない。当該年度の研究によって、近世日本の対外関係研究と、マカオ研究とを架橋できたのではないかと思われる。また、日本・マカオ間関係の断絶、「鎖国」政策の実施は、日本のキリシタン禁制を軸に考えることが重要であるが、マカオという視点も入れ込むことで、単線的ではない、より複合的な日本の対外関係を描くことできた。本研究は当初三年間実施する予定であったが、所属機関の変更により、平成27年度限りでの実施となった。しかし、今後も計画に基づいて研究を継続する。平成28年度においても、海外史料の収集と、その分析から得られた結果から、研究を実施し、その成果を公開する予定である。
