项目摘要

意識と無意識という人間の認知情報処理を担う二つのシステムの役割について、マウストラッキングを使用して情報が入力されてから極めて短時間のスパンの中で検討した。マウストラッキングとは、画面中央に呈示される情報（画像や単語など）を即座に該当する左右いずれかのカテゴリへコンピューターマウスを使って分類し、そのリアルタイムの軌跡を分析する方法である。この手法を用いることで、意識と無意識の並列的な情報処理の特徴を明らかにすることを試みた。実験では、画面中央に呈示される人物の表情が怒りか幸せのいずれに当てはまるかを、コンピューターマウスを使って画面左右への分類を求めた。ただし、分類を求める表情写真の呈示に先立って、閾下（10ms）で同じ人物の怒りか幸せの表情を呈示するという手続きを行った。したがって、閾下呈示する表情が直後に呈示される表情と一致する条件（例えば、閾下で幸せ表情を呈示し、分類でも幸せ表情を呈示）と、閾下呈示された表情が直後に呈示される表情と不一致な条件（例えば、閾下で怒り表情を呈示し、分類では幸せ表情を呈示）の2条件が設定された。参加者45名を対象として、そのマウスの軌跡をx軸とy軸の空間関係から分析したところ、以下の結果が得られた。第一に、一致条件の場合と比較して、不一致条件においては、分類画像が呈示されてからの初動段階（約500ms間）で、閾下呈示された表情へマウスの軌跡が引っ張られることが示された。第二に、不一致条件では上述のように初動段階では閾下呈示された表情に引っ張られるものの、分類の後期段階（約500ms後）からは分類対象の表情へと軌跡が修正された。すなわち、表情という社会的な情報の処理の初期段階においては、無意識が優勢となる。しかし、この初動段階の無意識の処理は、即座に意識的な処理によって修正されるという、意識と無意識の並列的な情報処理が示唆された。
