最終年度である本年度は、昨年度までに得られた成果を論文として投稿するとともに、戦略的排斥を行使する心理基盤を明らかにするための行動実験を行った。これまでの研究では、孤立させられた個人だけではなく、他者を孤立させる個人もまた心的苦痛（社会的痛み）を経験することが明らかにされてきた。しかしながら、他者を孤立させることに苦痛を感じるはずの人間が、なぜ他者を排斥できるのか、その心理プロセスは明らかにされていなかった。そこで、トロッコ問題や歩道橋問題に代表されるような道徳的ジレンマの枠組みに基づき、多数者に利益をもたらすことを目的として排斥が行使される場合、排斥に伴う社会的痛みは抑制されると予測し、意思決定課題のパラダイムを援用した実験室実験によって検証した。その結果、(a) 集団に多くの利益をもたらす個人ほど排斥の対象として選出されにくいこと、(b) 集団に多くの利益をもたらす人物を排斥する際、より強い社会的痛みを経験することが明らかとなった。これらの結果は、道徳的ジレンマ状況における個人の心理プロセスと一貫するものであった。このことから、他者を排斥する背後には、「最大多数の最大幸福」と表現されるような功利主義的な動機が心理基盤として存在している可能性が示唆された。今後は、当初予定していた集団としての利益を高めるために排斥の対象を決定するまでの神経プロセスを検討し、排斥者の心理プロセスをより精緻に検討することが求められる。
