現代の東京圏は、地域社会における高齢化や人口減少の進展、世俗化や娯楽の多様化、反社会的勢力や過度な乱痴気騒ぎへの排除意識の強化、地縁的共同体の重要性や、江戸あるいは日本の伝統の再評価といった社会的環境の中にある。そして、このような環境の中で祭礼における神輿渡御は現在も活発に実施されている。では、東京圏の神輿渡御は、現代社会を生きる人びとにとって、どのように価値付けられているのだろうか。本研究は現代の東京圏の神輿渡御をめぐる、神輿会（年に複数回、祭礼やイベントにおいて神輿を担ぐことを続けている神輿愛好家による集団。東京圏に900団体以上存在する）、町会（氏子たちを中心とした祭礼運営の組織）、非参加者、主催者、関係者（警察官・観光客など）といった複数のアクターの間での実践と、かれらの間での価値をめぐる闘争の歴史的展開に注目した民俗学的研究である。最終年度にあたる令和元年度は、これまでの2年間で行なってきた参与観察に加えて事後調査を実施するとともに、本研究の分析視角についての検討を進めた。またこれまでの研究成果を、論文として投稿することに尽力した。これらをとおして、①先行研究を社会統合論・自己充足論・対抗論と総称可能な分析視角に整理できること、②東京圏の神輿渡御では、神輿渡御の三者関係と総称可能な町会と神輿会との関係性によって地域の社会統合と地域外参加者の自己充足とが矛盾なく両立していること、③主催者や非参加者が神輿渡御の神聖化（高尚な意味を強調する言説によって、祭礼の混沌を縮小させ、秩序を達成しようとする戦略）を志向していることによって、東京圏の神輿渡御において神事や伝統が強調されるに至っていることなどの3点を明らかにし、論文として投稿、掲載されるに至った。一部の論文は、掲載誌の規定にもとづき筆者のresearchmapからダウンロードが可能な状態になっている。
