项目摘要

本研究では、二〇世紀後半における「プラグマティズム言語哲学」の中心的人物であるリチャード・ローティおよびその影響下で「推論主義」を展開するロバート・ブランダムらの文献的研究を念頭に、その社会実装に関わる課題を取り扱ってきた。それに際して、理論的研究とその社会実装に関わる応用的研究の両輪を推進してきた。両者に通じるのは、「理由による正当化」をコミュニケーションの中心に位置づける推論主義的な言語哲学アプローチという方法論を、現実に適用し、理論に適宜修正を加えるという営みである。まず、理論的側面においては、近年急速に進んでいるアメリカ哲学史の見直しにも棹差しつつ、一九世紀末から二〇世紀にかけてのプラグマティズムの潮流の位置づけの見直しに取り組んだ。ひとつには、従来ではいわゆる論理実証主義などを擁した分析哲学と敵対してきたプラグマティズムという旧来の描像が否定されつつある動向に関連して、分析哲学とプラグマティズムを統合的になった領域の再定義を進めている。また、他方でアメリカにおけるドイツ観念論からの連続性を再評価する動向もある。この二点にまたがって、プラグマティズム言語哲学を再評価する研究を共同で推進し、関連書の批判的検討などを実施した。ついで、社会実装の側面においては、人文社会科学分野の役割として注目が高まっている「ELSI（倫理的・法的・社会的課題）」から多くの研究実績を残した。とりわけデータビジネスELSIに関わる論文の執筆、人文社会科学の意義についての共著4冊の出版などの成果が達成されている。
