本研究の目的は製品改良の理由について解明することである。「マイナーチェンジ」や「部分改良」、「リニューアル」、「リモデル」、「バージョン変更」などの様々な言葉で表現される製品改良の理由について、学術的観点から解明することを試みるものである。本年度は研究実施計画の通り、インタビュー調査や資料調査を中心に製品改良の理由について検討を行った。製品提供側（企業・個人開発者など）がどのような理由から製品改良を行うのかについて明らかにした。営利企業による製品改良の理由の最たるものは需要の喚起である。ただし、市場規模の拡大、時間経過に伴う需要低下の復元、代替製品への移行防止など、詳細な意図はさまざまであった。これらに加え、法令・規制変化への対応、社内的・社外的な要求への対応なども組み合わさっていることが明確となった。一方で、個人開発のフリーソフトウェアの改良においては、非経済的利益（名誉など）や倫理観に基づくものがあることも確認できた。加えて、様々な製品がインターネットとつながることにより、製品改良自体が大きく変化しつつある状況が明確となった。このような知見は、安定的・経済的な観点から捉えられることの多かった製品改良について、そもそもの認識（研究枠組み、実践における分類など）を変更する必要性を提示するという点で、非常に重要であると考えている。本年度の研究成果は３件（国際学会発表２件、書籍１件）である。研究計画に記載の通り、次年度以降も引き続き研究成果を適宜公開していく予定である。

There were 3 research results in this year (2 international society reports and 1 book). The research plan records the communication, and the research results of the next year are suitable for disclosure.
