项目摘要

本研究は、『カンタベリー物語』の16世紀刊本において、その本文異同の状況から当時一部を除き廃れていたといわれる非人称構文がどの程度継承され、また反対にどの程度書き換えられたかを明らかにするものであり、言語変化を考えるための基盤研究である。作品全体を電子化し、パラレルテクストを作成し、初期写本や15世紀刊本とテクスト比較することで、16世紀に作成された3つの刊本に反映されている編集者の言語感覚や他テクストからの影響を考察することを目的とする。本年度は、Thynne版について作業を行った。Early English Books Onlineから刊本の画像ファイルを入手し、刊本に特殊な文字等についての情報をグループ内で共有しながら、電子化作業を進め、『カンタベリー物語』の10の断片のうち4つを電子化して、パラレルテクストを作成した。そして、このデータを中心に、2023年8月に開催予定の国際研究会The 2023 Hiroshima International Conferenceでの発表準備を行った。また、今後の研究方針の基礎とするため、大野は15世紀刊本のデータに基づく非人称動詞listの変化について分析・考察した。その論考は学術雑誌『近代英語研究』（2023年度発行予定）に掲載されることとなった。さらに、テクスト比較の結果の一つの活用方法として、大野は15世紀の各刊本作成に際して使用された写本（現在は不詳）について、非人称構文を手掛かりとした質的・量的分析から、その候補を提案するという内容の発表を2022年7月開催の国際チョーサー学会第22回大会（オンライン）で行った。以上のように、今年度は本研究の第一段階を踏み出しながら、今後の比較調査の方針の基礎となる研究を行い、また、基礎資料の発展的活用法の可能性を示したことは、十分に意義があることと考える。
