项目摘要

本研究は、伝統的に転移修飾（transferred epithet）と呼ばれている修辞表現に焦点を当て、さらに、類似すると考えられる言語事象をより広範囲に、かつ統一的に説明しようとするものである。これまで転移修飾現象は「文語的」あるいは「詩的」などとされ、一部言語学的な分析がみられるものの、その詳細については説得的に解明されているとはいえず、関連する修辞表現への言及もほぼみられない。転移修飾における「形容詞＋名詞」の結合の仕方は、表面上形容詞が名詞を修飾するというごく一般的な統語的な修飾関係がみられる一方、意味的には複雑なつながりを示す。以上を研究背景として、今年度は基盤となる資料収集に重点を置いた。いわゆる転移修飾といわれる現象を他の構文にも生じることをコーパス、フィクションなどから抽出した。(1) She also has an occasional drink.
