研究計画の当初予定に沿って19世紀から20世紀の転換期における「中欧」の広域経済圏構想やそれを実現する取り組みを明らかにするべく「オーストリア農林業利害擁護総本部」の刊行物（Mittheilung der Oesterreichischen Centralstelle zur Wahrung der land- und forstwirtschaftlichen Interessen beim Abschlusse von Handelsvertraegen）や「工業家クラブ」の刊行物（Mittheilungen des Industriellen Club）の分析を1897-1901年の期間を中心に進めた。その関連で、近年の研究文献を踏まえてオーストリア＝ハンガリーの通商政策の歴史的な展開についての研究状況と問題点を検討し、史料分析における視角をより一層明確にすることに努めた。また、本研究の主要テーマである20世紀初頭の「中欧経済協会」設立過程について今後生じうる課題を見越して、設立の主導者（J. ヴォルフ）に焦点を当てた研究も行った。当該人物の「中欧」の広域経済圏構想と人種観との結びつきについて検討するとともに、他の「中欧」との比較を通じて同時代の思想状況のなかでの位置を明らかにした。この研究の内容は、雑誌論文として公表した。これに関して、本研究計画では「中欧」とドイツナショナリズムとの関係如何も問題となる可能性が高いが、これを看過せずに整理しておくという意義がある。上述の研究によって、当該人物が独自の人種思想を持ちつつも、当時の主要なドイツナショナリズム団体「全ドイツ連盟」の人種主義等とは多くの点で異なっていたことを明らかにした。この成果により、「中欧経済協会」の活動方針が全ドイツ主義的な拡張政策とは異なることを前もって示せたと思われる。
