In this project we propose to study transport properties of two-dimensional electronic systems with two bands and particle-hole symmetry. A prominent example of this class of physical systems is graphene, others are surface states of topological insulators. In the first part we propose to study electronic and optical properties near Dirac nodes, the influence of internode scattering and the effect of additional nodes, created by periodic potentials. In a second part the transport properties away from the Dirac nodes should be investigated, in particular, near the saddle points of the node structure. And finally, a third part of this proposal deals with the transport near structural instabilities in graphene, which are caused by electron-phonon interaction. This work will be based on analytic field-theoretical methods and numerical transfer-matrix calculations. Both approaches have been developed and tested in the first period of this project and have the potential for more general applications. The proposal is related to the results we have obtained during the first period of the project on "Transporteigenschaften von Graphen" and presents a systematic extension of our previous research. The goal is to provide an insight into the fundamental properties of a new class of materials that have a large potential for electronic and optical applications.
