平成9年3月1日現在の時点において、なされた研究は下記のとおりである。本邦で最初の当該言語の「記述文法」の作成を目指すという性質から、新たに知見が得られたというよりも、現段階における進捗状況を述べ、今後の展望を併記することとする。記述をほぼ終えた項目は、以下のとおりである。(1)マラヤ-ラム文字、(2)音韻構造、(3)性組織、(4)数、(5)人称体系、(6)名詞分類、(7)動詞組織、(8)不定動詞、(9)定動詞(10)法体系、(11)時制体系、(12)アスペクト体系、(13)格組織、(14)後置要素、(15)動詞的分詞、(16)複合動詞構造、(17)否定構造、(18)非人称動詞構造、(19)受動構文、(20)使役構造、(21)分詞名詞、(22)分詞動詞今後は、(1)条件法、(2)可能法、(3)人称名詞、(4)談話構造、等についても記述を進めて行き、記述文法の完成を目指したい。また、本研究中、ロシアのDr.M.S.Andronovによって当該言語の記述文法が公刊されるという情報を得た。この研究成果をも批判的に受け入れ、適宜、修正して行きたい。更に、これは従来の文法書には見られない記述形態であるが、言語文化的事象をも文法の扱う範囲の見做し、記述を行いたい。語彙に関しては、フィールドワークが時間的な制約によって行えず、今後の課題としたい。
