在日留学生が異文化(日本)に適応しようとする際、その適応を阻むものには様々な要因がある。その一つに日本人との間に起きる誤解がある。なかでも異なる文化に属する話し手は話の進め方が違うということを忘れたために生じる誤解について、留学生がその原因を自分で理解し納得する事は無理である。本研究は特に日本人との会話の中で生じる誤解を会話分析の対象に取り上げ、そこに展開されている日本人の話の勧め方を考察するものである。3段階に分けて進めた一年の成果報告は以下の通りである。1)誤解が起きやすい会話の調査:留学生との面談調査により、多くの場合、誤解は相手との親疎関係や社会的距離が適切にはかり切れないまま会話を続けてしまった結果、生じてしまうことが判明した。特に学生が親しく話せるようになったと思いかけた頃におきる誤解には興味深いものが多い。2)分析対象の会話:留学生がよく遭遇する場面のうち、『ものの依頼』や『その依頼の受け方/断り方』は日本人の会話の進め方の特徴が分からなければ誤解しやすい要因を含むものだと判断し、本研究の分析の対象とした。3)会話資料の中に反映している日本人の会話の進め方の特徴:まず特徴をつかむ手掛かりとして、会話の場面に存在する3つの要因(相手との親疎関係、社会的距離、負担の度合)を中心に分析を進めた。コンテクストスペース(ライクマン1978)を用いて分析した結果、日米の異文化間コミュニケーションの相違点として、ポライトネスの方略の違いが浮き彫りにされた。例として日本人が留学生に依頼する場合、留学生が断わる時に使うと思われる理由をあえて口にする。これは断わられた時のショックを和らげるためだけに言うのではなく、留学生が引き受けられない場合を考えて、断わり易くするためのポライトネスの方略であるとも考えられる。しかし、留学生には依頼をする段階で行われるこの働きかけがポライトネスの方略であるとは理解しがたく、誤解している場合が多かった。

International students from different cultures (Japan) are facing difficulties due to different factors. The Japanese people are misunderstood. The reason for the misunderstanding is that the foreign students understand and accept the unreasonable things. This study focuses on the misunderstanding of Japanese conversation and the object of conversation analysis. 3-step progress report of the year 1)A survey of misunderstandings and conversations: interviews with foreign students, multiple occasions, misunderstandings, family relationships, and social distances. Special students love to talk to each other, think about each other, misunderstand each other, and be interested in each other 2) Analysis of the conversation: the characteristics of the Japanese conversation: the situation of the encounter between the foreign students, the relationship between the two sides, the relationship between the two sides. 3)Conversation data reflects the characteristics of the Japanese conversation: the characteristics of the conversation, the existence of the conversation scene, the three main factors (the relationship between the hand and the family, the distance between the society, and the degree of burden), and the central analysis. The results of the analysis of the differences between the different cultures of Japan and China (1978) show that the differences between the strategies of the different cultures of Japan and China are obvious. For example, when Japanese students are in trouble, they think about it. This is the first time that we have ever had a chance to talk to each other.
