On international comparison analysis of manufacturing strategy

In this research project, according to the necessity of the sound growth of manufacturing industries in the globalised era, a quantitative survey on the current status of manufacturers in advanced countries, their strategic directions and action programmes to realize them was performed based on the objectives and the execution plan. By this activity, constitutional problems of each industrial sector as well as some suitable prescriptions were examined and, especially through cooperative survey and comparison analysis of the obtained results among researchers in advanced and developing countries including EU, NAFTA and Oceania, the feature and positioning of Japanese manufacturers have been able to clarified their strategic positioning from international point of view.On the study schedule, following issues were tackled and investigated in 1998.1) Settlement of framework of behavioural model of manufacturers, 2) Examination of questionnaire items based on the model, 3) Execution of prel … More iminary survey and feasibility study, 4) Design of final questionnaire booklet and standardized survey procedure (general meeting), 5) Execution of survey (by questionnaire distribution and additional interviewing), 6) Collection of filled questionnaire and data arrangement of interview, 7) Computer input of the data and construction of databaseAlso in 1999, the following issues were tackled and investigated.8) Settlement of view point of analysis and story (general meeting), 9) Execution of various statistical analyses, 10) Analysis of behavioural cause-effect structure, 11) International Comparison of the obtained results and consideration (holding an international symposium), 12) Publication of research report and circulation to cooperative companies, 13) Investigation of individual topics and presentation of their results at the related international conferences (by organizing sessions)The obtained results in terms of publications are up to 33 academic outcomes, i.e, 1 edited book, 13 papers, 2 conference presentations, 3 research reports/articles, 4 other lectures and 1 award in 1998-1999, the planned research term, and 1 edited book, 4 papers, 1 research report/article, 2 other lectures and 1 award in 2000, the exceeded term.
