英文摘要
Project Summary
Children’s National Hospital (CNH) proposes to relocate 15,520 GSF of advanced core facility research space
in support of its NIH funded District of Columbia Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities Research Center
(DC- IDDRC). The relocation and expansion of this program will be from CNH Sheikh Zayed campus to the
new Children’s National Research and Innovation Campus located at the former Walter Reed Army Medical
Center site in Northwest Washington, D.C., 4 miles from the hospital. The project involves
renovation/modernization of one floor of the former Armed Forces Institute of Pathology building originally
constructed in 1955. The total cost of this construction is estimated to be $9,446,951. This CO6 requests a
budget of $8,000,000 with the remainder of the cost (approximately $1,446,951) being funded by CNH. This
state-of-the-art core facility will allow the conduct and expansion of genetic and neuroscience research
initiatives of the DC-IDDRC, an interdisciplinary and inter-institutional research center. The mission of this
IDDRC is to improve the understanding and treatment of children with developmental disabilities, including
autism, cerebral palsy, epilepsy, inherited metabolic disorders and intellectual disability. The new space will
support 3 cores that will be accessible to investigators from the four institutions that comprise the DC-IDDRC:
CNH, George Washington University (GW), Georgetown University and Howard University. The construction
will also include shared hoteling laboratory space for DC-IDDRC investigators whose laboratories are not on-
site but who are utilizing the core facility. The proposed DC-IDDRC cores consist of: 1) Cell and Tissue
Microscopy, 2) Genomics and Bioinformatics, and 3) Induced Pluripotent Stem Cells (IPSC).
