At GSK we seek to protect the natural resources needed to ensure the continued delivery of our high-quality products to patients and consumers in the future. GSK as a company aims to reduce our environmental impact by one quarter by 2030, cutting greenhouse gas emissions, reducing water impact and redirecting waste for beneficial use. Not only is GSK committed to the Carbon Neutral 2050 strategy but also plans to announce even more ambitious targets in the near future.Project funding is for a portfolio of energy efficiency projects to be implemented at the GSK Barnard Castle pharmaceuticals site in County Durham. The overall objective of the project is to progress energy efficiency focused projects, particularly focused on heating, which have historically been hard to justify based on financial savings particularly due to the relatively low price of natural gas. A portfolio of projects have been selected, which blends proven technologies which do not meet current internal investment thresholds and an innovative waste heat recovery project. They include both energy efficiency and waste heat recovery projects:* Replacement of steam heat exchangers (calorifiers) for low temperature hot water (LTHW) plate heat exchangers and extension of the site hot water distribution network, reducing heat losses and improving use of CHP heat* Replacement of inefficient motors and process fans to reduce power consumption* Installation of a heat pump to recover waste heat from site compressors and displace heat demand on natural gas boilers
