This study's objective is to explore and explain subnational variation in violent collective action(henceforth violence) in Nigeria, Africa's largest economy and most populous nation. Through amixed methods approach, it will make an original contribution to the literature by investigating howlocal political factors interact with socioeconomic ones to shape the likelihood and nature ofviolence in space and time.
