英文摘要
Long-lived greenhouse gases such as CO2 are the major drivers for climate change. However many shorter-lived climate forcing agents exert a powerful influence on climate that owing to their lifetimes means we could reduce rapidly. Here we will use a state of the art Earth system model to understand just how mitigation of short lived climate forcers could help us meet future climate goals and what the unintended consequences and benefits of such actions could be. This project will help to develop new functionality in the UKCA model, the model used in the UK Earth system model to simulate atmospheric chemistry, aerosols and climate interactions. The new functionality will help us to understand the effects and rates of mitigation needed.
