This project aims to understand the performance of current NDE systems used to size cracks during creep and creep fatigue crack growth testing. Evaluating creep performance is important for life evaluation of high temperature components in nuclear reactors. This work has evaluated the performance of conventionally used creep crack sizing systems. it has been found that there are some limitations in sizing discontinuous cracks. The project has now focussed on developing and evaluating an ultrasound-based measurement system to accurately size discontinuous creep cracking.
