I would like to take a course at CFAR to firm up my knowledge of the basics of psychoanalysis. My analyst, Aliana Santana, will also recommend courses at the NEL Mexico City which I can take remotely. In an ideal world I would like to do a six-month placement at either CFAR or the NEL depending on which seems to fit best with my work: I won't know which is better until I have checked out both. The idea is to become an authority on the crossover between psychoanalytic theory and literary practice. Although I am well versed in the basics of psychoanalytic theory, there are many gaps in my knowledge which I want to fill in, and there are other areas which are more refined where I would need to be sure that I am going down the right routes in my investigation. Lacan said that the best way for students to get to grips with psychoanalytic theory is in a reading group with the guidance of a supervisor: I want to try out this environment for myself, whether with CFAR or the NEL. The Introductory Couse at CFAR is not a clinical qualification, but rather a course intended for this kind of grounding. Because it is a year long and supervised the structure of the course has a monitoring aspect to it.My supervisor has indicated that he would like me to teach in my second and third years as a PhD student. I understand that in order to do this I will need to take a training course, titled Preparing to Teach with the LDC but I'm not sure where to find it. I've got teaching experience from my time teaching English as a second language in Brazil and Mexico, as well as running workshops with Under the Volcano in Tepoztlán, Mexico, since 2019. I'd like to build on this with the Preparing to Teach module.Since my first year will be spent working on the creative and critical written portions of my thesis, the accumulation of PPD credits will focus primarily on publishing the individual chapters of my critical work as academic papers in journals which my supervisor, Prof. Thomas Karshan, will help me identify.
