The proposed research topic aims at investigating the pedestrian's behaviour during emergency evacuation under flash flood conditions. The flood events will be simulated using advanced Virtual Reality technologies and hydrodynamic numerical models, and the pedestrian's behaviour pattern will be modelled using Social Force Model taking into account the interaction between individuals. The research concerns exploration of individual hazardous decision making influenced by others during emergency evacuation. The output of the research will be providing guidelines and strategies to be undertaken in the event of flooding to help reduce human fatalities.
