Livestock farming is a major contributor to global warming and depletes water andland resources. There is demand for alternative approaches to meat production, suchas cultivated meat that involves culturing animal cells to produce meat-like products.New, game-changing materials are required for large-scale cultivation of cells that areabundant, affordable, and food-safe. Ideally, these materials should be edible andproduced using environmentally sustainable materials and processes. This project willinvestigate the valorisation of waste materials derived from the brewing industry toproduce scaffold materials suitable for the cultivation of cells that can ultimately beused in the food industry.
