This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. Citrine is a yellow fluorescent protein that changes color under pressure. Its emission spectrum redshifts by around 4 nm when it is pressurized to 2 kBar. Quantum chemical modelling indicates that this might be due to deformation of the light emitting element in the protein by pressure. With crystallographic data, I hope to link the structure of the protein to its function, its color, through quantum mechanics.
