This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The broad objective of the study is to determine whether sexual side effects common with SSRI medications may be associated with the medication's effect on gonadal steroid hormones. The study investigates the hypothesis that serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRI) antidepressants suppress production of steroid hormones. And additional hypothesis is that there will be an association between the emergence of sexual side effects after starting an SSRI given the decrease in circulation levels of androgen hormones.
