英文摘要
This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. PACTG P1045 is a cross-sectional study designed to evaluated the prevalence of morphologic and metabolic abnormalities in vertically HIV-infected children and youth and uninfected children and youth. This study will (1) comprehensively evaluate the prevalence of abnormalities in glucose metabolism, serum lipid levels, body composition, fat deposition and distribution, and bone density, (2) evaluate whether exposure to protease inhibitors (PIs) is correlated with metabolic and morphologic abnormalities among HIV-infected youth, and (3) compare the prevalence of abnormalities in this population according to Tanner Stage. These data are critical for designing intervention trials and studies designed to determine pathophysiologic mechanisms.
