This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. This proposal is to pilot prospective data collection on a cohort of children. These children are students in a new Chicago school, which is designed as an intervention to promote healthy eating and activity. The opportunity for The Center for Obesity Management and Prevention (COMP) to develop data collection right along with the program will represent a beneficial assessment of the program's effectiveness, and will also contribute to COMP's research mission. The project's primary aim is to develop baseline data and check data collection feasibility for DNA data. The project will also test the feasibility of collecting student DNA from buccal cell swabs for later genotyping. The baseline data-and data collection feasibility information-will be used in grant proposals for subsequent data collection and analysis over a period of at least five years.
