This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. This research study is being done because pain is a significant problem for patients with a variety of medical problems and following surgery or traumatic injury. Currently available pain medications may not relieve all types of pain or may relieve pain only at doses that produce side effects and potential complications. The medication in this study may have a role in better treatment of pain. The goals of this study are to see if a dose of ketorolac (non-narcotic pain reliever), given spinally (given into the fluid in the back near the spine) has any effect on pain or discomfort from a small area of skin that we will expose to a small amount of UV-B radiation (a mild sunburn). The medication being studied is an FDA approved medication; however, we are conducting this study under IND 62,179 because we are administering the medication by a different route than it is indicated for.
