This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. The purpose of this study is to look at how the body breaks down blood sugar, the amounts of fat, proteins and other substances in the blood, the amount of body fat and fat distribution and how solid bones are in: 1. HIV-infected children compared to HIV-uninfected children 2. HIV-infected and uninfected children at different stages of sexual development 3. HIV-infected children taking a class of anti-HIV drugs called protease inhibitors compared to HIV-infected children not taking PIs.
