EVALUATION OF BONE MASS AND STRENGTH IN PEDIATRIC POPULATIONS

This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. To develop normative data for total, trabecular and cortical bone mass and bone strength for pediatric populations from infancy through adolescence using the pQCT technique. B. To assess bone mass and strength in medically disadvantaged pediatric populations using the pQCT technique to determine the effect of chronic illness/disease on bone health and the need for clinical intervention trials to improve bone health. C. Compare bone mineral content and lean mass as assessed by the pQCT technique to bone mineral content and lean mass as measured by the Dual Energy X-Ray Absorptiometry (DEXA) technique.
