英文摘要
This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the
resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and
investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source,
and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is
for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator.
Childhood obesity, its antecedents, and associated metabolic and cardiovascular co-morbidities have been targeted by the National Childrens Study (NCS) for study. Early growth patterns have been linked to metabolic and cardiovascular diseases and childhood and adult obesity.
The purpose of this study is to determine whether fetal body fat measured by 2-D ultrasound (U/S) predicts neonatal body composition. We will test the following specific aims: SPECIFIC AIM 1: To determine whether fetal fat measured by 2-D U/S predicts infant fat mass measured by BIA, DXA, and air displacement plethysmography (ADP) at birth and 6 wks. SPECIFIC AIM 2: To confirm that Infant serum insulin, IGF-1, IGFBP-1 & -3, adiponectin, and leptin values are reduced in IUGR infants and elevated in macrosomic infants. SPECIFIC AIM 3: To validate serum adiponectin values measured from the dry blood spot on filter paper against serum adiponectin values measured from cord or heel stick blood samples.
